09 April 2020

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

“Do not let your difficulties fill you with anxiety, after all it is only in the darkest nights that the stars shine more brightly”

(Ali Ibn Abu Talib)

Dear Ilim Community,

We pray that this letter finds you and your family in a state of health and tranquility. On behalf of our school leadership team, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience, while our leadership team have been working behind the scenes to prepare for Term 2.

Firstly, please note that Tuesday and Wednesday (14th and 15th of April 2020) will be Curriculum Day's and remote learning for Term 2 will start as of Thursday the 16th of April 2020.

As we move towards the final days of term break and following the latest announcements by the Federal and State governments, Alhamdulillah we have now finalised our planning and are ready to experience a new way of learning together.

While at times we are faced with unique hardship, Allah (SWT) promises us that with every difficulty there will be ease. The current circumstances we find ourselves in have created new vistas and opportunities for us to explore and grow together on our students learning journey.

The following is a brief update on our planning for Term 2. More detailed information and guidelines on process implementation will be released tomorrow Insha’Allah.

Teaching and Learning in Term 2

As per guidance and recommendations from government bodies, we are transitioning to a remote learning environment during Term 2. However, all our campuses remain open and we will be providing on-site supervision and care for:

  • The children of essential workers where both parents are unable to work from home.
  • Staff children who are currently enrolled at Ilim College and are unable to make arrangements for the care and supervision of their children.

Our staff will continue working diligently to provide the best possible online learning experience for our students, and our online learning platforms and programs will provide the opportunity for each student to continue their learning in the best possible manner Insha’Allah.

Remote learning will be conducted online with teachers using Learning Management Platforms such as School Box, Zoom and Edmodo.

Further guidance and resources will be made available to parents, students and schools around e-safety in relation to remote learning and student support in due course.

The College’s IT and Systems department will be available to support our families and staff members in order to minimise any disruptions.

A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and answers will soon be available on the College’s website.

What will be very important in this process is the role of our parents. We do understand the pressure that you are most likely feeling during these unprecedented times, however, in order to get the best results, we all need to work together, and we will get through this together with the help and blessing of Allah (SWT).

Financial relief for our families

There is no doubt that the events surrounding COVID-19 have led to increased economic uncertainty and financial strain for each household.

At Ilim College, while we are not immune to economic pressure, we have been busy the last few weeks closely re-examining our finances to see how we could assist our parents during this difficult time.

As a result, we are pleased to announce that we will be implementing the following measures:

  • There will be a $250 credit applied to student tuition fees for the 2020 school year. This credit will be applied for each student enrolled at Ilim College. Parents who have already paid their fees in full will receive a credit on their balance which can be utilised for the 2021 school year. For Year 12 students whose fees have been paid in full, a refund will be applied to the value of the credit.
  • All excursion levies applicable to 2020 will be credited against each students’ fee account.
  • If there are any other levies which are not utilised during the remainder of the year, (i.e. swimming levies) these will also be credited for each student.

In addition to the above, if you are experiencing extreme financial difficulty, please contact the College and ask to speak to the College Accounts Team who will provide you with further guidance.

Please note that our Student Services team is available to meet the needs of our students during this difficult time.

Thanks again for your cooperation and understanding.
