Principal, Dallas Primary Campus
Dogan Akin began working at Ilim College as a Senior Coordinator in 2007. From 2010 – 2014 he worked as a Vice Principal and currently, he is the Principal of the Primary School. Prior to Dogan Akin’s appointment at Ilim College, he worked at another independent school for 12 years as a primary classroom teacher and took on leadership positions such as Literacy Coordinator, Curriculum Coordinator and full-time primary coordination.
Dogan values strong relationships with students, parents, staff and other community members and confers with all school stake holders to review and update policies, procedures and programs. He contributes to the development and implementation of educational programs and co-curricular activities.
Dogan is passionate about inspiring students, staff, parents and members of the community to continuously enhance the learning of all and strives to develop and improve the impact of school policies and programs. He works with and through others to build a professional learning community that is focused on continuous improvement of teaching and learning. Through managing performance, effective continuing professional learning and feedback, he supports all staff to achieve high standards of teaching and learning and develops their leadership capacity.
Principal, Glenroy Campus
Ms Derya Buyukyazici has been part of the Ilim family since 2003. Between 2003 and 2007 she fulfilled various roles within the school, from Educational Support throughout Grades Prep to 6, Administrative duties and assisting in the Library.
In 2008, she commenced her teaching career as an Upper Primary teacher and took on coordination roles such as Level Monitoring, Teaching and Learning Coordination, Student Representative Council and Curriculum Coordination.
In 2013, she joined a team of three Head teachers and through a collective effort they lead the Glenroy campus. Together they established and overlooked the Curriculum, Welfare, and Teaching and Learning departments and endeavoured to motivate the team of facilitators towards professional growth that met the needs of our students.
Ms Derya is currently the Principal of the Glenroy campus.
She believes that education and life are inseparable; the reason children go to school is to learn to be part of a group and that the facilitator is a key player in creating that connectedness. Ilim College gives her the opportunity to work towards inspiring and motivating a community of young Australian Muslims and their families, and that in itself is beyond a profession or a job, it is a reward.
Principal, Kiewa Campus Campus
Fadi Koubar began his journey at Ilim College in 2007 where he assumed the role of an Assistant VCE Coordinator and taught Mathematics and Business Management. In the subsequent years Fadi Koubar moved on to become the VCE Coordinator and the Assistant Vice Principal. After a short absence in 2011 Fadi returned to Ilim College as the Vice Principal and in 2015 he was entrusted to the Principal’s role of the newly established Boys Campus.
Fadi Koubar commenced his teaching career in 1993 where he taught Arabic, Mathematics and Information Technology to Primary and Secondary students. His introduction to leadership started early in his teaching career where he was appointed as a Secondary Coordinator. He then moved onto other roles such as daily organising, timetabling and Deputy Principal for both the Primary and Secondary departments. Fadi has completed post graduate studies in Educational Leadership and Management at Melbourne University.
Fadi believes in the importance of developing and sustaining positive relationships with all stake holders, including the students. Understanding the needs of the youth and valuing their strength and capacity are catalyst in developing the sense of achievement and belief amongst students. Fadi is also a strong advocate of exposing students to new experiences and engaging activities within and outside their own community. Exposure to positive experiences leads to maturity which in turn leads to better habits and success.
Principal , Dallas Secondary Girls Campus
Zeynep Sertel began her teaching journey in 2001 as an English, Humanities and Quran teacher in secondary and lead different department at domain head level. She joined Ilim College Dallas Campus in 2010. She became a Head of Teaching and Learning for secondary in 2012 and continued in this position till 2014. She then became the Vice Principal in 2015.
Prior to her appointment as Principal, Zeynep taught at La Trobe University in Melbourne and Prince Sultan University in Riyadh.
Zeynep values positive student, teacher and family communication and believes this is the key to success on a personal academic level. She strongly believes in the concept of “lead by example” when fostering the leadership skills in the leaders of tomorrow.
Principal, Doveton Campus
Hakan Gunsay has been with Ilim College since its inception 1995 as a student and was one of the first graduates. He has undertaken various administritive roles such as IT Support, Promotions Coordinator and Business Management.
In 2008, he began his teaching journey as a specialist teacher and took on coordinations such as ICT Domain Coordinator, Daily Organiser, Timetabler and Senior Primary Coordinator.
Hakan has undertaken the role of Principal of the Doveton Campus in 2018.
Hakan believes education is a life long journey and that providing positive learning environments will bring out the potential students hold within them. He is passionate about having strong relationships with students, parents and teachers which would enable problems to be addressed effectively.
