Principal, Glenroy Campus
Ms Derya Buyukyazici has been part of the Ilim family since 2003. Between 2003 and 2007 she fulfilled various roles within the school, from Educational Support throughout Grades Prep to 6, Administrative duties and assisting in the Library.
In 2008, she commenced her teaching career as an Upper Primary teacher and took on coordination roles such as Level Monitoring, Teaching and Learning Coordination, Student Representative Council and Curriculum Coordination.
In 2013, she joined a team of three Head teachers and through a collective effort they lead the Glenroy campus. Together they established and overlooked the Curriculum, Welfare, and Teaching and Learning departments and endeavoured to motivate the team of facilitators towards professional growth that met the needs of our students.
Ms Derya is currently the Principal of the Glenroy campus.
She believes that education and life are inseparable; the reason children go to school is to learn to be part of a group and that the facilitator is a key player in creating that connectedness. Ilim College gives her the opportunity to work towards inspiring and motivating a community of young Australian Muslims and their families, and that in itself is beyond a profession or a job, it is a reward.
Vice Principal, Glenroy Campus
Ms Murvet Altikulac has been a part of the Ilim College family since 2005. She began her teaching career as a Prep teacher and gradually added upper primary to her experience. Alongside her responsibilities as a classroom teacher, she took on extra responsibilities such as level monitoring, assisted with discipline and welfare, explored mental health initiatives as part of her role as the Social and Emotional Learning coordinator and led the Primary Student Council where she was part of a team that initiated many fundraising projects.
In 2013 she joined a team of three Head teachers and through a collective effort they lead the Glenroy campus. Their roles commenced in mid January, and they took on the task of transforming an empty building into a practical and stimulating learning environment for students and staff. They worked closely with the teaching and support staff to ensure that each and every student had a rich schooling experience.
Ms Murvet is currently the Vice Principal of our Glenroy campus.
As a classroom teacher she always believed that every child has potential and that it is the duty of the teachers and support staff, as facilitators to nurture and unlock that potential. In her leadership role, she is a strong advocate for promoting this belief amongst her staff.
Primary Coordinator , Glenroy Campus
Ms. Siti Ali began teaching at Ilim College in 2012, as a Grade 1 teacher. She is a committed Early Years teacher who became our Prep to Two Area Coordinator in 2014.
A professional and dedicated educator who focuses on supporting the Early Years team with a child-centred curriculum and Play-based Inquiry learning that encourages student creativity, academic growth and development of every child.
Before joining Ilim College, Ms Siti was teaching students from Grade 2 to composite Grades of 3, 4 and 5 classes. She contributed to the growth of her previous school as an Events/ Sports coordinator.
Ms Siti believes that by fostering meaningful relationships with students and parents, students will then be successful learners.
Teaching & Learning Coordinator - Grade 5 and 6 Well being and Area Coordinator, Glenroy Campus
Ms Gulsum Yigit has been teaching at Ilim College since 2006. She has taught in the Upper Primary department, starting with Grade 4, moving to Grade 5 and then Grade 6. Her heart and talents lie in teaching our Grade 6 students as she has been a Grade 6 teacher for the last 6 years.
Ms Yigit has taken on various leadership roles including Numeracy Coordination, Islamic Studies Coordination and Mosque Coordination.
She has been our Wellbeing Coordinator since the second year of her teaching. She is currently the Grade 6 classroom teacher as well as the Wellbeing and Area Coordinator for the Grade 5 and 6’s at our Glenroy Campus.
Ms Yigit places great emphasise on the relationships and connections she has with her parents, students and colleagues. Her commitment to establishing and maintaining these relationships throughout the years has never ceased.
Head of Student Services, Glenroy Campus
Ms Oya Asik began teaching at Ilim College in 2004, as an ESL and Special Needs Co-ordinator at the Dallas campus. During this time it was imperative to establish the Special Needs Department. Teachers were provided with professional advice, support and mentoring. Ms Oya has a lifelong passion for education and loves the opportunity to watch students learn and grow to work with their families. At all times, students are the centre of every discussion and action.
Ms Oya has also Coordinator the Special Needs Department of other schools between 1996-2002.
Prior to her appointment as Head of Student Services, Ms Oya was the Additional Needs Coordinator. She was transferred from the Dallas campus to the Glenroy campus in 2013 in order to establish the Additional Needs Department.
Ms Oya believes stronly in Ilim College’s core values which include individual students to achieve the potential within a learning environment based on Islamic teachings that are safe, positive, caring, inclusive and welcoming. Ms Oya prides on being able to work with such a supportive community of parents and colleagues.
Grade 3-4 Well Being Coordinator, Glenroy Campus
Ms Sibel began her teaching career at Ilim College in 2013. Initially taking on the role of a LOTE- Turkish teacher, she soon progressed onto classroom teaching at the Glenroy Campus.
Ms Sibel is currently a Grade 4 teacher at our Glenroy campus. Alongside the responsibilities of a classroom teacher, she is also leading the Well Being of students in Grades 3 and 4.
Her teaching methods focus on social and emotional learning, which she believes, if taught explicitly, will not only establish a sense of self-empowerment but will also be well equipped to develop student confidence, ultimately allowing them to become more resilient, dynamic and conscious young Australian Muslims.
Grade P-2 Well Being Coordinator, Glenroy Campus
Ms. Nesrin Unel-Sayginer began teaching at Ilim College in 2005. She has taught in all year levels across Primary school but her passion lies in Grade Prep. After 8 years of working at the Dallas campus she decided to take the challenge of starting at the Glenroy campus in 2013.
She has taken on various leadership roles, but developed her expertise in Numeracy as the Primary Numeracy Coordinator from 2005-2011.
Prior to her appointment as a primary teacher, Glenroy, Ms. Nesrin held a position as a secondary teacher teaching Year 7, 8, and 9 English and SOSE. She has also taught English to adults in 2003.
Ms Nesrin is currently a Grade Prep teacher at our Glenroy campus. Alongside the responsibilities of a classroom teacher, she is also leading the Well Being of students in Grades Prep, 1 and 2.
Ms. Nesrin values pastoral care and relationships with students, staff, parents and other school community members. She strongly believes in building relationship with the students and parents to make positive differences in a child’s life.
